Okemo Mountain School - About Us

Program Overview

Those who attend Okemo Mountain School are highly motivated individuals who have talents beyond the traditional reach. We address the needs of these talented skiers and snowboarders, grades 7 -12, by providing them with opportunity to train daily and work towards their competitive athletic goals while maintaining high academic standards.

Academics are still a priority during the intense full time training and competing. Instructional time is structured with a low student to faculty ratio where students can excel at subjects they might otherwise have struggled with.

The coaching that OMS students receive is unparalleled. Our experienced staff of alpine, freeride and snowboard coaches see to it that each student athlete reaches his or her own personal competitive potential.

Our classroom and dining facilities are located in a grand and scholarly 1800’s building in downtown Ludlow. For athletic training, privately owned and operated Okemo Mountain Resort is unmatched in its generosity for private, on hill time allotted to a school.

The opportunities for personal growth at OMS are endless. There is a tremendous amount of motivation, dedication, and passion for skiing and snowboarding that is required by an individual to even take part in such a program. Once here, the students at OMS are immersed in an atmosphere encouraging respect for self, peers, and community as well as perseverance and responsibility.

Local snowboarding legend Hannah Teter, a Belmont–native and Olympic gold medal champion in the half pipe, recently announced that she will donate all her snowboard earnings from the upcoming season to her charity, Hannah's Gold, and the organization World Vision.
The former Black River High School and Okemo Mountain School graduate, has competed in such national and world events (and won a few) as the Winter X Games, Grand Prix, U. S. Open, Worlds, Winter Gravity Games and of course, the 2006 Winter Olympics in which she won her gold medal.

Through the world charity organization World Vision, sales from Hannah's Gold helps provide funds to sponsor Kirindon, a town of 56,000 people in Kenya.
The idea to donate her earnings came while Hannah was rehabilitating from a serious knee injury after the Winter Olympic Games in 06’.
